Hi guys linking up again with

My last two weeks have been up and down again but i really started focusing this past week and have managed to drop about 4lbs yay!

I have been making a real effort to keep a diary of everything i put in my mouth and keep myself accountable! it's hard but so helpful on those days you don't drop any weight and feel so disjointedness! you can look back and think well those gingerbread biscuits probably didn't help.

I have also been trying to eat a BIG soup for lunch because i find it really helps me feel fuller longer plus i am being way more adventurous with the soup im eating, i used to be a heinz tomato or vegetable only kinda girl! but in the last couple of weeks i have had a carrot/swede/celariac soup and a sweet potato/carrot/parsnip soup, my next soup adventure looks like its set to be a roasted cauliflower/garlic and Shallot soup I can't wait!

couldn't get the bowl to look all perfect and fancy it was too yummy!

a drive to Fanahammeren

Yesterday the boyfriend and I decided to take a quick drive

to enjoy the beautiful clear blue skies.

Our goal was to drive into to Fana to see the area my boyfriend's family farm used to be

we decided seeing as the views were so beautiful to keep driving and visit the farm school he went to and in doing so we came across the most beautiful little place called

Fanahammeren

I am pretty sure we have decided if we ever get super rich we will be buying a koselig little house out here!

A lot of things!!

But

I have decided to not write them all over my blog like i have been tempted to these past few weeks.

I feel like all i read at the moment is negative negative negative and it's starting to affect the way i am looking at things.

often i find myself moaning about something or worse listening to someone else moan about something and then agreeing with them before i catch myself and think first world problems much!

I have decided to concentrate on some positive things from now on.

Like how happy i am to live in an AMAZING country with a job and a boyfriend i am madly in love with.

How happy i am to be connecting with a bunch of new ladies who i am sure will be firm friends soon enough.

and how happy i am to be working towards my fitness goals with a renewed energy!

I hope that this new found focus on the GOOD things in life will help me blog a bit more. I really want to start blogging about the place i live because it has been my dream country since i was a teenager and it hasn't disappointed me yet!

also i can't wait to start posting about all the progression we are making in the new apartment!

and many other fun things!

Oh How Pinteresting - Kitchen Edition

I really didn't plan to link up today but the bf and I have been picking paint swatches for our new kitchen and i just felt super pinterest inspired.

As our apartment is tiny but blessed with BIG windows we are going with a very neutral cream/latte colour scheme.

in our kitchen the majority of the walls are lovely latte coloured panels but there is one wall which faces the window and i think just deserves to be a lovely accent colour.

still pale but just a change of tone to make it feel a bit different.

These are the colour swatches we are looking at the two in the middle are a variation on our panels and the other two are the ones we are trying to decide between for an accent wall.

Bloggers Biggest Loser: Week 2

Ok so week one went well and i lost 4.3lbs wooo!

But

then i had some university work to finish and it all went downhill from there :(

so now i am at 191lbs boohooo!!

However

I have started work with a personal trainer and so i am feeling a lot more motivated to kick this weight loss in the arse!!!

while i was on my ignoring dieting and my blog hiatus aka last week! I had a revalation while out on date night!

Usually on date night the BF and i go out for a big dinner and ALWAYS include desert because i have a sweet tooth and i am treating myself.

I don't feel bad about this because we all need a little treat sometimes but i do feel bad about ending up buying a huge expensive desert just for the sake of it after a big meal.

This time around we tried something new

TAPAS

it was the perfect way to not eat a ton but to have a lot of little bites of yummy food.

I had:

baby potatoes (boiled) with garlic and chilli
stuffed mushrooms (little ones)

bread and garlic mayo

and olives

not so bad really and for desert instead of going for a big gluttonus desert i shared this baby with my love

Cucumber and Lime sorbet, dark chocolate cake with port and Creme Caramel

I seriously think this was a brilliant choice because i got to try three different deserts but because we were sharing and the portions were like 2 bitsizes i didn't over indulge.

I remember commenting to my Boyfriend on the way home how nice it was to not feel so full i felt a bit sick but instead i felt satisfied.

I wanted to thank everyone on their lovely comments on the last blog posts i did and let you all know that at some point this week (ahem maybe tomorrow or thursday) i shall be giving away some awesome things including..

Hey guys this is just a quick one to tell you about this new book i have been reading which in turn has inspired me so much i am getting ready to walk an hour to work!

in the cold and possible rain people!!?

this book must be doing something rightt!

I say:

I haven't finished this book so far as i have only read week 1 of the plan it includes but i cannot tell you how inspired i feel by the first chapters

(not even including the plan its self)

The author knows her stuff

and better yet when i'm reading it i don't feel like its all sciency jargon i don't understand.

She talks about the need to tailor make a diet and not to just blindly follow a crazy one.

she also talks about looking at the root of our unhealthy and unhappy habits.

after reading the first half of this book i woke up this morning at 6:30

(usually i drag myself out of bed at 8)

and have decided that to save the bybane money

(another of my resolutions was to get debt free by 24)

I am going to set off an hour and 15 mins before work and walk all the way to work!

so call me crazy, call me weird but check out this book -

i downloaded it to my kindle and LOVED IT <3

Bloggers Biggest Loser . Fitness Goals 2012

Hey Guys today i am linking up for..

and today we are talking about fitness goals of 2012!

Mine are the same as always although this year i feel focused!

my goals are...

1. first and foremost lose weight, i have been trying for many years to slim down and get my body healthier but so far i have no succeeded it is often down to following impossible diets, a lack of will power and an overwhelming sweet tooth.

But this year i shall be following the

This isn't a crazy diet which makes you cut everything of joy out of your life, instead its a healthy and easy to follow plan! my colleague is on it and she has lost a lot of weight without starving her into a bag of bones!

My overall weight goal is to get to 125lbs

2. start running, i have tried running so many times but i just hate it!! this year however i really want to work on loving it! so i am trying the nike + walk to run program! and hopefully i will run a 5k this year instead of walk one like i did last time!

3. stick to my goals! plain and simple

yes it will!!!!

Date Night and NYE

The boyfriend and i decided that instead of venturing out into town on NYE, spend lots of money and getting crushed on the bybane home,

we would do a Date night the evening before instead.

It's that time of year again

Time to make a lot of goals that will most likely be forgotten in a few weeks

but

not this year,

this year i am setting myself some reachable (i hope)

sensible (i think)

goals to achieve by January 2013

... that is if we make it that far ;)

1. Start and finish a quilt

My wonderful aunt got me this book for Christmas

and i have already got started on something

2. Do much more knitting
i am such an old lady ;)
3. Take photos everyday

now that i have a brand new camera i want to make the most of it and really work on my photography skills
4. Get more focused with my blog writing
sometimes i feel like i really just write any old rubbish and then fill in the rest of the week with random link ups, which although i do love them i kind of want to add a bit more original writing too.
5. Lose weight, get fit and healthy
this is of course a standard in almost everyone's new years resolutions, this year i am completely serious in wanting to make a change.

I will be discussing my goals later this week as part of the above weekly link up thing (yeah i know i said not as many link ups but i didn't say none at all!)

6. Get (mostly) debt free before i am 24
discounting my student loans as they will probably haunt me forever! i plan to be debt free by May this year, that way i can really work on saving towards my future.

7. Train for a 5k
hopefully i will be completing one with a colleague later this year.

8. Work on appreciating who i am and how i look
kind of says it all above.

So there it is 8 reasonable goals to start of my 2012

Merry Christmas Eve Eve

I am unbelievably excited for Christmas right now.

mainly because Norwegians do the majority of their celebrating on Christmas eve

(i know it's weird right!?)

but that does mean tomorrow is going to equal good food and Christmas presents!

So that means i am signing off for the next couple of days to induce myself into a food coma and play with new presents!

Tuesday Loseday

Now that the Holiday season here and there is a lovely layer of snow covering the ground i really find myself falling off the diet wagon more often then i should.

Afterall,

this is the season to bake sweet treats, eat with friends and generally be Merry!

and my motivation to go for a walk outside has been lacking.

who want's to go and walk in the snow for an hour when their boyfriends mum can show them how to make donuts fried in Lard! (they are actually delicious!)

BUT

(and it is a big but to go with my big butt!)

New Years eve is fast approaching which means New Years resolutions are right behind,

and i have decided to get a head start on mine and try and reign in my sweet tooth for the holiday (sort of)

Using inspiration from a bunch of different blogs and websites i have decided to try a new method
6 days on 1 day off

This way i stick to healthy eating 6 days a week and then allow myself one day a week to do some Christmas baking and indulging
not that i intend to spend the whole day gorging
i just want to allow myself a little freedom to do what i love
Bake and Eat!

I also started the Walk to Run program on Nike+
which gives me a motivation to go out in the snow everyday and also sets me reasonable goals each day.

If any of you ladies are looking for a similar program and want to join up
i would love a blog running buddy!!

sorry for the wordy post, i promise further Tuesday Loseday's

I was lucky enough to be paired with the wonderful Lena over at Mom to Memphis and Ruby

and just the other day a lovely little package arrived!

I was so pleased to find an Essie nail polish in there as i have been desperate to try one FOREVER!

I have never tried any Sally Hansen nail polishes before but i am soo impressed i wore this colour for a week and it did not chip once!! it is much better than my OPI Meet me on the star ferry and it is almost the same colour!

Chocolate Gingerbread Muffins

So on sunday night i decided enough was enough i had to get my not so little arse back on track and plan myself a week of healthy eating and exercise..

cut to late Monday evening, exhausted from work and experiencing a hardcore sugar craving,

so i said what any self respecting person would...

Fuck Ze Diet!!

and rummaged through my cupboards untill i found the ingredients for something sweet and satisfying which in this case was a muffin mix and some gingerbread spices

and lo the Chocolate Gingerbread Muffin was born! and gosh darnit it they were deeelicious!

I feel like giving the recipe is a little redundant seeing as i made them from a packet mix and just added some extras but what the hell i might as well...

You will need:

1 packet of muffin mix (or whip up your favourite basic muffin recipe if you have the time and patience)
gingerbread spices, i used a pre mixed spice mixture but i did a bit of searching on the ol'googleator and found this
Cocoa powder
brown sugar

How i did it:

1. Make up the muffin mix according to instructions, seeing as i was kinda breaking my diet and felt a little guilty i used natural oil in place of melted butter.

2. add in two teaspoon of spice mix. now i know you might be like whaaat that is a lot of spice but i really wanted these muffins to be warm and inviting and i love that deep spice flavour

3. add in a tea spoon of cocoa powder

4. mix all together and divide into muffin cases, sprinkle a little brown sugar on top and bake in the oven according to instructions

5. gobble down accompanied by a hot chocolate because let's face it we clearly aren't on a diet at this point ;)

The result: winter ready bliss

I got Crafty for the Holidays

I feel like now the holiday season is rolling around my craftyness has gone into overdrive

In the past few days I have done a ton of new bows for my etsy you can see them here

I have made some cute fabric roses for a top secret project of mine ;)

Also i have made an awesome Christmas decoration made out of shiny red and gold lucky stars and it is the perfect size for our tree (as it is going to be mini)

sorry for the super duper crappy photo quality there! (bring on the pro camera TP and I are getting each other for xmas!)

I also felt very inspired by British Girl in Norway and decided to make my boyfriend his very FIRST stocking!

Obviously this isn't the finished project i just bought some fabric from ikea this evening and have cut out the pattern! tomorrow is sewing day to see if it all worked out! the pattern is kind of made up so i hope this works!!

also I kind of went Christmas mental in Ikea this evening and came home with lots of adorbs stuff for our apartment including this beauty

and yeah i realise i could probably make this without too much hassle instead of spending $25/£16 but it is effort and this one was just so perfect!

So WHO am I?

I am your basic female that loves to go shopping and do the traditional fun-loving activities women enjoy such as movies, reading, crafts and decorating. BUT I have a unique twist to my life story. I'm in the US Air Force (reserves), and am currently living in Germany and working daily with the tragically wounded soldiers arriving from the battlefield in Afghanistan. This line of work has given me a new perspective of what is important in life as well as the value of living each day to its fullest.

Over the last 10 months, my blog has been a blend of many things - but mostly about traveling, fashion trends, and a teeny bit about my H&M shopping problem. The BIG NEWS is I'm moving back to the states in a week and there will be a whole new slew of adventures headed my way.

When I first arrived in Germany I bought a bike and named her Fifi. I decorated her with travel stickers, and her and I traveled Europe via the rail system. The sad news is I won't be able to bring her with me, so she will stay behind and hopefully continue her adventures with a new owner. Check out my blog for my upcoming announcement of this news along with what is coming up next for me.

I pondered about what to write about for Selina's blog, and thought I would list things I was grateful for. In turn, I want you to list 5 things in your comments that YOU are grateful for.

GIVEN ITEMS are family, spouse (significant other), god (whatever religion you practice), friends, and general health. Really think about it...... and be creative.

Here's my list:I'm grateful for:

1. My independence, and my ability to not be held back by fear

2. The crisp autumn air and how it fills up my lungs and makes my cheeks rosy

3. Everything the Military has done for me and the opportunities it provided

4. Knowing how to cook and type ( I know...2 random skills to throw together)

5. Finally.... I'm truly grateful for the small gestures other people do. A kind word, a small gift a genuine smile. These moments make my day.So....what's yours?

A Challenge and an OOTW

The other day i got a text from my gym! it asked me if everything was okay because it hadn't registered me at the gym in the last 45 days! I'm not sure if i am pleased about this? who wants to be reminded by their gym that they are slacking!

but

That isn't really the point of this post, today i have been thinking about body image and how i view myself. Honestly i think i have some kind of backwards body dysmophia when i think about how i look i imagine myself to be slimmer than i am and sometimes i am genuinely surprised by how large i look in the mirror or in photos.

I don'y think this way of seeing myself will necessarily change as i lose weight and slim down so i have decided to set myself a challenge.

Every week i am going to do an outfit of the week post which will hopefully let me keep track of how my body changes and also to see how good i can look when i'm all dressed up nice.

Obviously i won't love every photo but i think it will help me work on looking at myself in a more positive way.

So here is outfit number one.

I am loving this mustardy colour at the moment and i think it really compliments my colouring (see i am complimenting myself already!)

Guys today is a super special day my little itty bitty baby sister Alice

turns 18 Today!

officially a grown up!

apart from the fact that it makes me feel a bit old, i am so proud of her and all that she does.

Because let me tell you my sister is talented! not only does she have a super cute blog

Taking baby steps to get back on track

I haven't blogged about my weightloss efforts for a while, to be fair i haven't blogged about much for a while, but that is not the point.

After losing a whole STONE thats 14lbs in a matter of weeks, i went away for a glorious holiday in Morocco and ate a lot of Junk food, instead of getting back on track when i got home i continued eating badly.

I am not sure if it was because i was out of the habit, or because the days started getting darker and i started craving crabs or if it was because i was having a shitty time at work and frankly couldn't care less about anything let alone eating healthy. Whatever it was it set me back this morning the scale read 184 and let me tell you i was not happy at all!

My goal for Christmas seems so far away

BUT

I cannot give up! ¨

I just can't so i have decided to take some baby steps to get me back into the old habits.

i have resisted the junk food this morning and i am getting myself ready for a long day of cleaning the apartment before a nice long walk as the sun sets.

I have also decided to try this challenge i saw on pinterest.

I am also going to use the hand weights i bought recently to get some toning in, because my jiggles are getting jiggles!

before you do, here's an awesome and easy

Slow-Cooker Banana Bread

serves 6-8 servings

preparation time: 10min

ready in: 3hours

ingredients

1/3 cup unsalted butter, melted, plus more for preparing pan
3 overripe bananas, mashed
3/4 cup brown sugar (honey works wonder too!)
1 large egg
1 tps pure vanilla extract
1 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
1 tps ginger
1 tps cinnamon
1 tps nutmeg
3 tbsp grounded flax seeds (when grounded the seeds are easier to digest)
1 tsp baking soda
1/2 tsp salt
1/2 cup chocolate chips

directions

1. butter the slow-cooker dish

2. in a large bowl, mix butter, banana, sugar and egg. stir well

3. in a separate bowl, mix all remaining ingredients but the chocolate chips.

4. mix dry ingredients into wet ingredient and mix gently until flour diappear. stir in the chocolate chips.

5. pour batter into the slow-cooker dish. cover top wit paper towel (to absorb moisture) and put the lid on6. set slow-cooker to low temperature and cook for about 2h30 (or until the knife you insert comes out clean)

7. let it cook down. slice it and eat it!

Marrakech Part 1- The Hotel

Before i start this post i have to confess a deep dark secret of mine, i am hoping it won't change your opinion of me but it needs to be said.... up untill the age of 20 (3 years ago) i had never stayed in a hotel!!! nope never, not even a shitty b&b style one. as my family were more the hippy festival camping type i have stayed in far more tents than i would like but hotels not so much. However since my hotel cherry was broken in Paris a few years ago (i am completely aware of how wrong that sounds) I have managed to stay in a grand total of 5! and enjoyed most of them.

The hotel in Morocco was by far the best, in fact i am not sure i can definitely call it a hotel as it is actually a riad
"A riad (Arabic: رياض‎) is a traditional Moroccan house or palace with an interior garden or courtyard"
It has apparently become very popular for tourists to stay in riads while in morocco because you get a better sense of the hospitality, which is so true! for the best part of the holiday the only people who were staying at our riad (Riad Villa Wenge) were the people in the wedding party, so we had the run of the place.

When we first arrived at the riad, we were all pretty hot and bothered as the taxi was unable to drive us too close to the riad itself so we had to cross the big open squared market Jeema el faa, and then navigate our way (with the help of a guide) through the small alleys of the souks narrowly avoiding being hit by speeding scooters every 5 seconds , honestly when we reached the door of the riad i did not have high hopes. But once we were inside and the door closed the noise just melted away.

We were shown to our rooms, Tor Petter and I got Chambre Alu which i assumed would be all silver and metal but much to my delight was very pink!

we were on the second floor of the riad so when we stepped out of our doors in the morning if we looked up we could see the beautiful clear blue skies and feel the warm sun (it was around 27C at 6am most days)

and when we looked down we could see the courtyard and usually breakfast being served up

Obvs this wasn't taken in the morning and the quality is a bit crappy but i like all the lit up candles!

Upstairs on the roof was probably my favourite part of the hotel and i spent many hours relaxing up there, it was crazy how peaceful and quiet it was when it was situated in such a noisy and busy area.

I was quite sad to leave this little slice of heaven, although i can't say i miss being almost run down by maniacs on scooters every time i left the front door- but more about that another time.

Hi peeps,

I am back from Morocco after a torturously long airport stay (in which i slept on a bench, more on that another time) and i am raring to get back on track with work, life and especially blogging unfortunately fate saw fit to strike me down with some horrible illness so i spent my first day back in Bergen sweating my face off at home and leaving my co workers to survive without me (which i am sure isn't hard) while i try to get my creative juices flowing and line up some posts for a few days i would like you to meet one of my co workers and fellow bloggers Alyssa who kindly wrote me a blog post for while i was away but i managed to forget to post woops....ah well better late than never

Hey readers! I blog at From Freeways to Fjords, mostly about my transition from being in a long distance relationship in California to being married in Norway. Selina asked me to do a guest post on her fabulous blog, and that sounded pretty great! So here it is...a debut guest blog post for me (this is my first time writing for another blog...).

It's October. Normally, in California, I'd be preparing for one of the best holidays: Halloween. In Norway, however, that's a bit tricky. It seems like Norway has a growing enthusiasm for the fun, candy-and-costume themed day, but it just isn't as embraced as it is where I'm from. In Cali, I always know I have plans: either get dressed up and party, or get prepared to pass out candy on the front porch of my parents house.

Lately, I've been preferring the candy option. It's delightful to watch the little kids get up enough courage to walk up to the house without their parents and say "trick or treat!" (which, of course, translates to "give me some candy!"). And some of the kids have the most adorable costumes. Halloween night in Southern California isn't likely to be rainy (as it is almost certain to be here in Bergen), so it's a perfect autumn night to be roaming the streets getting a months worth of goodies to rot your teeth and bounce off the walls.

You usually see the kids with the pumpkin buckets:

I grew up using a pillowcase, which personally, I think is way better. You can fit way more candy in it, there's no plastic handle so it won't hurt your hand or break, and you can sling it over shoulder during your long walk from house to house.

Year after year I would go out with my brothers, sister, cousin, and eventually, when my siblings grew too old for it, with my friends. When we returned home after getting to every house with a light on in the neighborhood, we would find a spot on the living room floor and dump out our candy.

It was time to compare. My parents sort of made it into a math game I guess, so we each sorted our candy (snickers go with snickers, reese's peanut butter cups in a big pile - those were my favorite!, m&m's together, etc) and counted how many were in each pile. Of course, we wrote it down to see who got the most of anything and compared notes after. We traded for our favorite pieces.

Such a fun night. But now, being "all grown up" in my own apartment in Bergen, I fear I will have to travel back to California for some real Halloween fun. I doubt we'll get even 1 trick-or-treater here. I don't know how children trick-or-treat in apartments anyway.

I found a store called "-nille" that sells Halloween decorations. Seriously lacking in creativity and options, I picked the best that I could find and brought it home. I've got a few orange- and -black decorations and I'm on the hunt for more.

It's about that time to carve pumpkins, as well. Those aren't easy to come by here, but I'm determined to find the perfect pumpkin in Norway, and bring it home to carve something wonderful.

Slowly but surely, I'll bring this beloved tradition of Halloween trick-or-treating to Bergen!

Marrakech

I meant to write a post BEFORE i left for Morocco but as it happens work and life got in the way as they often do and i forgot.

I have been in Marrakech since saturday and so far i am loving it, consistant 35c weather,a jaccuzi and good food, what isn't too love!?

Living in amongst the souks and markets is admittedly a little fustrating as you can' leave the front door with out getting accosted and someone trying to sell you a carpet. But the deals are good and the quality worth it.

I have a ton of post ideas which i am going to try and draft up while i laze by the jacuzzi including a shopping post and a eurotrash post ;)

Bonjour mon amies (full extent of my french knowledge) I am currently in Morocco as you know and i thought it would be nice while i am gone, to introduce you to one of my sponsors and fellow expat bergenser Jenna, so here she is....

Hey guys! I'm Jenna from Shove It In Your Face. I'm happy to be helping Selina out while she is off laying in the sun soaking it up in Morocco. I'm jealous! I'm having some major surgery on Monday to fix my knee (and hopefully ankle). I guess I can pretend I'm in Morocco while I'm laying in my hospital bed, maybe if I turn the lights up bright enough I could even pretend it's sunshine!

Before I get to the goods, I just want to say that this week has not been kind to me when it comes to cooking. I had big things planned for this post. I wanted to make designer sugar cookies and deliver them to Selina myself (and I still plan to!), but as usual life gets in the way of big projects like that. I made a beautiful Lemon Meringue pie, but after coming out of the oven it went from perfection to absolute disaster. The meringue separated, the lemon base did not set whatsoever and it just fell apart. The crust was perfect though, I'll give myself that much. Yesterday I made delicious oatmeal cream pies a la Little Debbie, but don't you know given the weather and total lack of natural light I could not get a shot to save my life.

I was freaking out at this point given my deadline was ya know...today. So I cooled my head, gave myself a pep talk about how incredibly awesome I am and put a little thought into what I could do. I wanted to make something for Selina that I thought she might enjoy, yet wouldn't do major damage to her shape up plans. Making something healthy and delicious at the same time and having it come out successful is something every good cook should be able to do and god damn it I'm not good I'm stellar. SO LET'S DO THIS!

Low Fat Whole Wheat Apple and Spice Scones

Scones are a British thing yea? Awesome, cause so is Selina. Well she isn't a thing, but yea.

These are light, airy, subtly sweet, healthy, low fat, low sugar and high taste. Grab one of these bad boys in the morning and you're good to go without having to worry about putting a little more jiggle in your thighs and trust me I know all about that jiggle. Allll about it.

These are highly customizable, you can add in or change up whatever you like as the base recipe can stay the same for any combination. You can up the nutrition value by adding groud flax, various seeds, fruits or even sharp cheeses and ham. Apple, ham and cheddar scones? Yes, please and thank you.

Low Fat Whole Wheat Apple and Spice Scones recipe adapted from Once Upon a Recipe
1 Cup Plain Flour
1 Cup Whole Wheat Flour
1/4 Cup Sugar
2 teaspoons Baking Powder
1/4 teaspoon Cinnamon
1 teaspoon Pumpkin Pie Spice
1/2 teaspoon Baking Soda
1/4 teaspoon Salt
1/4 Cup/56 grams Butter, cold and cut into small pieces
1 Apple, peeled and grated
1/2 cup skim milk
1/2 Tablespoon Vinegar
2 teaspoons Vanilla
Line a baking sheet with parchment and preheat oven to 425F/220C Combine skim milk and vinegar, let sit while you prepare the other ingredients. Combine flours, sugar, baking powder, baking soda, cinnamon and pumpkin pie spice. Cut in the butter with a pastry cutter, a fork, or two knives until it looks like wet crumbly sand. It's okay if there are small lumps of butter, that's good. Stir in grated apples, then add the milk/vinegar mixture and vanilla.Combine until just moistened, it will be sticky and somewhat crumbly. Don't overmix!Turn out on to a floured surface and gently press together into a flattened circle roughly 1 - 2 inches thick. Slice into 8 triangles and transfer to the baking sheet. Brush with skim milk and sprinkle a little cinnamon and sugar over each.Bake 15 - 17 minutes until golden brown. Cool on a rack for a few minutes before eating.

I Love Toast! I love it dripping in butter with a smearing of marmite and i love it with peanut butter or honey, but seeing as i don't eat bread anymore toast is not often on the menu....*sob*

However that is not what today's post is about, today i wanted to introduce you to one of my new favourite brands.

I recently stumbled across the brand while browsing in the shopping center by my work, they caught my immediately because of the bright and fun packaging.

Vanilla Chai Lipbalm

This was the first thing i bought, Vanilla is my favourite scent and this does not fail me. What i loved most about this lip balm is that is it made of all natural ingredients which meant there is no horrible artificial vanilla smell instead it is a beautiful sweet and subtle scent.

Coming from a country which has already fully embraced autumn, another important aspect of any lip balm i buy is how well it keeps my lips from getting chapped. and i have to say so far this has been amazing, my lips are super soft and kissable (ask my boyfriend he can confirm it!)

The second thing i bought was something i have been needing for agges as my skin has been getting so dry.

Paper Flower Handcreme

I had originally planned to get the gin blossom one but my local store didn't have it so i chose paper flower and boy am i glad, it smells fantastic, the smell is wonderfully floral but not overwhelmingly so, and it has a nice crisp clean scent without leaving your hands smelling too chemically. The best part is the cream is so thich but absorbs so quickly that it is perfect for really dry hands without leaving them feeling greasy.

I recently went overseas for a wedding and thought I would share what I wear when travelling.I think it is very hard to predict what the weather is going to be like, so you try and pack a range of clothes that are both fashionable, but confortable. This is the Kaftan I made the night before we left. Was a rush job, but turned out ok actually. Didn't get a good pic of it though, and just wearing it over shorts & a singlet. Was so not suitable for the weather as the muggy air made it sticky, but was worth it :)I also tried to have something a little dressy than casual incase we went out - which we did...and I felt over dressed haha. Oh well.

but when I looked at this massive queue for the register I gave up and we ended up leaving....totally crazy!

On the plane over I wore a simple dress with tights (was cold when we left sydney) and a leather jacket. But on the way home a maxi skirt singlet and leather jacket again.

I’ve gone to it twice before when it was in San Francisco, but sadly last year it grew far too large to fit into the SF Civic Center. The electronic dance parade and event lasts all day from 12-8pm full of PLUR; Peace Love Unity & Respect.

The love fest event originated in Berlin, Germany in 1989 and rapidly spread worldwide. They now have it in Los Angeles, San Francisco and many other cities. This year will be more epic than ever and I am dying with anticipation to dance until my legs fall off in crowds oozing L-O-V-E!

Take a look at a few pics from 2009. The crowd was so huge there was hardly room for walking and the party raged so hard people had to climb telephone poles and dumpsters to make room for their dance moves.

Hi, I'm Michelle and I live in Washington State. Well........I did.

As a member of the US Air Force Reserves, I have turned my life upside down to move to Germany for 6 months. My job entails transporting the extremely wounded soldiers from the battlefield in Afghanistan to the hospital. It's a tragic, yet incredibly rewarding job.

I started blogging last year as a way to document my adventure - sort of like an online journal. Hot Pink Combat Boots is NOT a military blog. Instead its full of European trends, fashion (do's and don'ts) along with random tidbits of travel and bike adventures. Speaking of bikes, I have one and her name is Fifi. She can be a bit of a pill sometimes, so occasionally I will feature her latest antics on my blog.

The blog has taken on a life of its own, and what I thought what could 'potentially' be a chore has become the best hobby I ever started.

My passions are many ~~because I'm OCD~~, but include: photography, writing, fashion, beauty, extravagant trips, interior design, yachting, cooking and shopping for vintage treasures. And of course, blogging!

I realize that you're probably thinking I don't quite 'fit' the military mode. You're right - I am a complete 'MISFIT' in the military, and I'm reminded of the difference every day. The good part is I have passed the 'awkward' stage of my journey and am now surrounded by fabulous friends. My tour is Germany is nearing it's end (I head home at the end of October) - but all that means is the journey will continue........just somewhere else.

True Life: I'm a Healthy Living Blogger ... sort of

I am teaming up yet again with fabulousbutevil and Mrs Monologues for their TRUE LIFE series.

This time it is True Life: I'm a Healthy Living Blogger! to be fair though i think my title should read

True Life: I'm TRYING TO BE a Healthy Living Blogger.

I am in the process of trying to shed 70lbs from my 5"2 frame, through eating healthy and exercising regularly.

My journey has ~~just begun~~ started many times over, often i go full throttle for a few weeks or even months, before i get distracted, it happens in most areas of my life, so i am doing my best to learn to stick with something!

One of the techniques i have started to use is short term goals, medium term goals and long term goals. In order to encourage myself to reach those goals i have worked out some incentives in which i can treat myself. because who doesn't like to spoil themselves once in a while? and how much better does it feel when you know you have worked for it?

Here's an example of how my goals and rewards work...

Short term goals

Goal -10lbs Reward - membership at the local gym

Goal -15lbs Reward - buy a M.A.C foundation

Goal -20lbs Reward - new rain boots

For every 10lbs i lose i will reward myself with a larger/more expensive treat and for the 5's in between something smaller but to keep me motivated

Medium term goals

I have set myself a goal to lose at least 2lbs a week, every week until Christmas, you can see that post here!

Now instead of focusing on my far far away goal of a 70lb loss, i focus on my weekly 2lb loss.

Long term goals

everyone has that ideal weight they would like to be right? mine is 120lbs, whenever i think about giving up on this i look at the dress i bought a few years ago when i was losing weight but never got into, or i log onto MyFitnessPal and look at what i have done so far, or i visit Pinterest and look at all of the amazing weight loss/ exercise inspiration that is floating around! it really keeps me going!

now to break up this word heavy post...

Banana Bread Muffins

I LOVE Banana bread with all of my heart.

I have such fond memories of coming home from school and smelling the sweet bready smell wafting through the halls from the kitchen. I remember arguing with my sister over who would get the end piece (the chewiest and most desirable in our house) often my mum would cut both ends off just to placate us as we slathered butter over the hot slices.

Banana bread never lasted long in our house, the two loaves my mum baked would usually be gone within a couple of days.

Recently i have been craving the sweet buttery taste, so much so that the other night i dreamed about Banana bread no less than three times!

When i woke up this morning and saw that my 4 bananas bought for lunches were black, i knew it was the world giving me a sign....

I don't have any loaf pans here so i decided instead to opt to bake them in a muffin tin! I am pleased to say it worked.

Banana Bread Muffins

recipe adapted from here

Ingredients:

3 or 4 very ripe bananas mashed
70g light margarine (melted or very soft)
10g no added sugar peanut butter (this was just to give it a slight peanutty taste but didn't really add anything - can be substituted for 5 extra grams of light margarine)
1 medium egg
150g sugar (I used white caster as that is all we had but i would recommend soft brown if you have it!)
175g flour (I used a wholemeal rye flour to give it a bit more of a healthy boost)
1 teaspoon of vanilla extract
1 teaspoon baking powder
a pinch of salt

Method:

Preheat oven to 175C (or 350F for you Americans)
Mix the butter into the mashed bananas.
Add in the sugar, egg and vanilla before sprinkling in the baking powder and salt.
Lastly add in the flower and mix together well.

Grease your muffin pan and fill the cups up about 3/4 of the way.
Bake for 20-25 mins or until golden brown on top.
Allow to cool ever so slightly before breaking them open and covering them with butter YUM!

NB to check if they are fully done stick a knife in the middle of the biggest one and if it comes out clean you are good to go!

It makes between 12-18 muffins.

i put this recipe into MyFitnessPal and it estimated the muffins at 106 cals ( i prefer to err on the side of caution so i am assuming these are closer to 150cals) not bad and taste delicious.

Hair Help!

Back in 2008, just before i started university i thought it would be a genius idea to bleach the shit out of my really long hair! not discouraged by the massive amounts of damage it caused and constant re dying it needed i carried on bleaching

and was left with a very shiny brassy yellow - not pretty :/

Around March/April time i decided it was time for a change and chose a deep purply reddish brown colour

which was okay if not a tad boring...anyway the colour started to fade into a strange dirty blondish brown i guess

Untill eventually it turned this BEAUTIFUL colour!!

Which i miss dearly!

and desperately want back! but i have no idea what i would ask for at the hair dressers as i came about the colour in such a round about way.

so my dear readers i have 2 questions for you...

1. what colour would you say this is??

2. Would it be wildly innapropriate for me to take in the 2 photos above to a hairdresser (as they are the only pics i have with this colour)

also i hope you enjoy the photos, as all of them show me either on the way to drinking or actually drinking #studentsdrinktoomuch!?

TRUE LIFE: I wish i was a food blogger!

Fabulous but evil and Mrs Monologues have been holding their True Life series for a few weeks now and i have known i wanted to get involved...i did the general blogger post here and then sat back and watched as all the other categories kind of passed me by, i have no idea how to define what i do, i often think of amazing posts and then can't carry them off to my satisfaction so i discard them. which leads me to the next True Life topic Food Blogging, i am addicted to food blogs and have always wanted to be one, so i often whip up recipes and try and photograph them, which never turns out the way i wanted to so i throw them on the rubbish heap. This has cultivated in me having a lot of photos of food i have made floating around on my hard drive so i thought i would use this opportunity to post them and show you why i wish i was a food blogger but would probably fail!

Getting back on track with MyFitnessPal

After last weeks disappointing results i was determined to get my ass back on track. After seeing fellow bloggers MrsMonologues and FabulousButEvil discussing the MyFitnessPal app on twitter i decided to check it out. My new android phone has not yet arrived (grr more on that another time) so i just had a snoop around the website. and i really liked what i saw.

The site begins by taking your height, weight, activity level and goal weight and giving you a reasonable weekly weight loss goal (1.9lbs for me) it also gives you a recommended daily calorie allowance (1200cals for me).

I especially love the food diary aspect as i tend to snack and forget what i have eaten but when i have this as an app i will be able to enter it right there, also the database has so many different brands including Norwegian ones! something that i have never experienced before and has always made online food diarying hard!

It also takes into account how much exercise you log and adds that to your calorie allowance which is a good way of doing it as some of us (ahem me) sometimes forget that if you work out like a crazy person and don't eat enough, you will get tired and sick and although you may lose weight at first it will come piling back on eventually!

Things don't always go smoothly

In weightloss things don't always go our way. You can set out with the best intentions, and start the week off well but sometimes things happen which can throw you off. That happened to me this week, i got a visit from Aunt Flo :( so all i wanted to eat was carbs and chocolate and then i kept forgetting to make lunches for work and ate a lot of lefse :(

So 1lb gained but i won't let it get me down, a new week is just around the corner and it's time to get organised.
I've got my lunches planned for the next week and i am going to try and up my work outs (because lets face it, i didn't work out last week)

I found this workout thing on pintrest that i thought i would try...anyone want to give it a go with me? Here is Monday's workout!

Setting Goals and Rewards

One of the hardest things for me when trying to lose weight is sticking to it! I do great during the week and then Saturday rolls around and the BF offers me a beer which in turn ends up being a handful of chips, another beer, a slice of pizza and an extra 3lbs to end the week, which of course doesn't put me in the greatest mood for the new week.

So i have been thinking of ways to combat the temptations and i thought i would share them with you.

Setting reasonable weekly weight loss goals, although i know i could push myself the whole week and lose 5lbs i also know that if something happens to throw me off it can be very disheartening if i don't make the goal, so by setting myself a minimum 2lb a week goal it makes it easier to achieve, plus if my goal is 5lbs and i only lose 4lb it is a disappointment, if my goal is 2lb and i lose 4lb it is an added bonus.

setting out small rewards to go with the goals, I'm not talking every week get a reward because i lose 2lbs, that wont make the bigger goals special, but saying to myself if i can lose 8lbs in the next month then i will treat myself to that pair of earrings i have been wanting for ages.

Treat Meals, i learnt this from my personal trainer last year, every week i would have one treat meal on a saturday (or whenever i picked) it doesn't have to be something full of fat but it meant if i was craving a bowl of cheesy pasta all week, or a bag of crisps, i could have them without feeling guilty. I think by allowing treats it stops us breaking down and binging on them late at night.

Pintresting motivational pictures- This is something new i have been trying, sometimes seeing something that you want to achieve can motivate you to work harder for it... here is one of mine..

one last thing i do is think about the clothes i want to fit into, in fact i have my favourite goal dress hung up in my bedroom so i can always see it. and i have to say seeing it when i wake up definitely motivates me to keep going.

It seems to me that Toms are a bit like Marmite, you either love them or you hate them. Me, I love them, i have been wanting a pair for years, but for some reason every time i was going to buy a pair something stopped me, not sure what or why but it was quite annoying.

However now i have a legit reason for buying a pair (or two) as my work requires comfortable indoor shoes and seeing as i am not Norwegian or a Mental patient i do not have any desire for these shoes to be Crocs like my lovely boyfriend so genuinely suggested (eurgh)

many Norwegians seem to have an unhealthy love for these ugly ugly things!

Not only do i love the simple design of Toms and how comfortable and long lasting they are, I also love what they stand for, the idea that me buying a pair of these shoes means a child less fortunate gets a pair too really warms my heart. If you have been stuck under a rock somewhere and haven't heard about what TOMS do you can read about it here.

They have also branched out into eyewear.

My Mission - Lose Weight!

I am on a mission to lose some weight!

The history of my weight reads like an epic tragedy, the moment i get anything achieved i manage to self sabotage! which is why i am blogging about this.

Last summer i dropped around 30lbs i went from 189lbs to 159lbs It was great, i felt happy healthy and energised, but then winter set in and my body went into full on hibernation mode, i stocked up on carbs and slept a lot (the joys of being a student!) The long and short of it, i not only gained the weight back but i added an extra 10lbs on top.

when i first moved to Norway i was at 169lbs, and i felt good!

I have been trying to lose again but it has been hard, living with a boy who is used to surviving off take-aways and frozen pizzas hasn't helped. I currently stand at around 192lbs which feels horrible on my body but i have decided a change is in order.

I have a new job which should keep me busy and stop me snacking all the time, and i have explained to the boy that pizza's don't make me happy so even if he wants to get one can he remember not to ask me, because usually if asked my will power gives up and i give in!

So i have set myself a GOAL it is currently 17 weeks until Christmas (yay) I would like to lose at least 2lbs every week untill then which would mean i would be down by 34lbs - sounds good to me.

I plan to do this by...

eating balanced healthy meals packed with lean protein, whole grains and salad.
NOT drinking soda and instead drinking water or cordial
Walking more, at the moment i have figured out a great walk which takes me about 11km (just under 7miles) but i usually do it like once and then forget to do it for a few weeks so now i have decided to try and do it at least twice a week once during the week and once on the weekend.

I have quite a few goal dresses and things that i want to fit into but by far my favorite is this one

I already have the dress in a size M and have never worn it! although 34lbs isn't going to get me into it, it's certainly going to get me on my way.

I am going to use part of my blog to write about trying to lose weight and keep a track of how i am doing (you should be able to see a tab in the links bar soon!)

I would love it if any of you guys have any TIPS or RECIPES to help me? or if anyone would like to join me in this weight loss i would love to have some support in getting to my goal.

4. This is an obvious one for me Jello the lovely and artistic writer of Jello's Kitchen This girl has it all, seriously she is funny, kind, artistic (check out her etsy page) and just down right a bonafide sweetheart. Her blog is never the same and i always enjoy reading what she has to say!

5. And last but by no means least is Talitha at TTimeChatter, I have only just started reading her blog but i really love her outfit of the days and her take on fashion. she also does some wicked fashion DIY's!
